The investigations, conducted by the Mobile Squad of the Messina police headquarters, have made it possible to shed light on some attempted assassinations, by gunshots, between 2016 and 2017, attributable to disputes to assert their control over the drug market in Giostra . About 350 policemen employed for the operation called "Market Place", coordinated by the anti-mafia district directorate of Messina.

According to the investigation, one of the two criminal groups discovered was led by Angelo Arrigo, who coordinated the various drug dealing squares. According to the investigators, he would have been the one to pull the strings of the organization, taking care of the drug supply, managing the negotiations on quantities and prices, deciding if and to whom to cancel a debt or grant a discount and solving the problems related to the controls. of the police (for example, with the frequent use of real lookouts who warned of the arrival of suspicious people or cars). The investigation by the Messina police, coordinated by the DDA, started after an attack committed on 25 January 2017 against two relatives of Angelo Arrigo, Gaetano and Paolo, father and son,wounded by gunshots fired by a man who had flanked them on a scooter. Both were put on the legs. Only a few days later, on January 28, their car was set on fire. Right from the start, the investigations focused on the local underworld and drug trafficking.   



According to the investigation, Arrigo managed the customers and was usually helped by his wife who welcomed customers in the absence of her husband and took care to inform him, communicating with caution for fear of being intercepted, of the presence of buyers. After the arrest of the man, who ended up in handcuffs in recent months, the woman would have managed the business.
