Bremen (dpa / lni) - The Bremen citizenship wants to further strengthen children's rights in the state constitution on Thursday.

The amendment to the law provides for two additional paragraphs, among other things.

According to this, the best interests of the child should be given substantial consideration in all government action that affects children.

"If the current draft is accepted by the citizens, we are a big step further in terms of children's rights in Bremen," said Kathrin Moosdorf, managing director of the Bremen child protection association on Tuesday.

The proposed wording could also be a good suggestion for the inclusion of children's rights in the Basic Law.

However, Moosdorf also makes it clear: “Just because something is written in black and white in the state constitution does not mean that things are actually being tackled and implemented.

There is still a lot to do here in Bremen and Bremerhaven. "

The protective rights for children are already in the state constitution.

With the change, however, the participation rights are to be strengthened.

That is why the draft states: "In matters that affect their rights, children have a right to participation and appropriate consideration of their freely expressed will in accordance with their age and maturity."
