We will have to wait a little longer than expected to see the opening of the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell in the United States.
Initially announced to start on July 12, it is finally postponed to the fall, to a date not yet specified, the New York judge in charge of the case said on Monday.
The defense of this ex-figure of the British jetset, accused of trafficking in minors on behalf of the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, had asked for a postponement after the prosecution indicted her with additional charges at the end of March. Judge Alison Nathan ruled that a "slight delay" was "in the interests of justice". She further called on the two sides to agree on "the earliest possible date this fall".
Ghislaine Maxwell, 59, has been incarcerated in a federal prison in Brooklyn since July 2020. She faces life imprisonment, accused of having recruited, between 1994 and 2004, young underage girls on behalf of Jeffrey Epstein, who exploited them sexually.
She was arrested a year after the death of the financier, found hanged in his New York cell.
The investigation had concluded with a suicide and dysfunctions of the prison.
