New York (AP) - The Internet trading platform Ebay is considering the introduction of payments with digital money such as Bitcoin.

"We continue to look for other options such as cryptocurrencies," said CEO Jamie Iannone on Monday (local time) the financial broadcaster CNBC.

Ebay has already expanded its payment spectrum and is now accepting Apple or Google Pay, for example, and the company is always open to other alternatives.

The stock reacted in late US trading with significant price gains.

It is not the US company's first crypto flirt.

"Digital currencies will develop into a very powerful thing", the former Ebay boss John Donahoe had already told the "Financial Times" in November 2013 and showed himself to be open to Bitcoins as a means of payment.

However, the plans came to nothing and just under two years later Donahoe left Ebay.

At the time, PayPal also belonged to the group - cryptocurrencies are now recognized by the online payment service that was split off in 2015.
