Berlin (dpa / bb) - A drunk rioted at the memorial for the victims of the terrorist attack on the Christmas market at the Memorial Church.

A passer-by observed how the 58-year-old knocked over a picture frame on Monday lunchtime and destroyed it with his foot, as the Berlin police announced on Tuesday.

Emergency services arrested the man.

A voluntary breath alcohol test showed a value of around 1.8 per thousand.

According to the announcement, the police issued a dismissal against the man and are now investigating because of disturbing the peace of the dead and damage to property.

Since December 2017, a memorial on Breitscheidplatz has been commemorating the attack the year before.

A nearly 17 meter long, golden crack in the ground is supposed to symbolize the deep cut in the life of those affected.

On the steps in front of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, the names of the dead from six countries are supposed to keep the memory alive.

The Tunisian Anis Amri shot a truck driver in Berlin on December 19, 2016.

With his vehicle he raced through the Christmas market, where another eleven people died.

More than 70 were injured.

The authorities had already noticed the rejected asylum seeker as an Islamist threat.

After the attack, he fled to Italy, where he was shot by the police.
