Bonn (dpa / lnw) - A prisoner with a heart condition at the Euskirchen correctional facility is allowed to interrupt his sentence in prison because of an acute corona threat.

As the public prosecutor's office in Aachen confirmed on Tuesday, the high-risk patient was granted two months' imprisonment.

After outbreaks of the Sars-CoV-2 virus in the detention center, the outdoor prisoner had sued for a break for fear of infection, but also because he may not be able to attend an upcoming heart operation due to quarantine.

The application for the fraudster, who was sentenced to more than three years in prison, was initially rejected by the Aachen public prosecutor's office in December 2020.

After a complaint and the advice of the Bonn regional court to take the case seriously also because of the threat of corona outbreaks in the prison, the prison leave was granted.

The man's lawyer has now requested an extension of the time-out until the end of August: so that his client can end his sentence as a fully vaccinated person.
