Demmin (dpa / mv) - After the big fire in a residential and commercial building in Demmin (Mecklenburg Lake District), thieves broke into several affected apartments and a shop.

According to the police, the break-ins were probably committed between April 30 and May 4 and were noticed on Tuesday.

At least one television and a cash box were stolen, but the total amount of the damage is still unclear, as not all owners have checked their abandoned apartments.

The broadcasting station Ostseewelle had previously reported on it.

The four-story residential and commercial building was badly damaged in the fire on April 29th.

According to experts, a defect in the heating under the roof was the cause.

Thanks to the rapid deployment of around 100 firefighters and helpers, the mostly older and sometimes less mobile residents of the ten apartments were all rescued.

Some stayed with relatives, others in a nearby hotel.

The city has called for donations for residents who have lost most of their belongings.

A solar system was installed on the roof.

The fire damage was estimated at more than 500,000 euros.
