Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Brandenburg's state government is planning to cope with the financial consequences of the corona pandemic 515 million euros in new debts.

The authorization to take out further loans due to the emergency would increase to 2.9 billion euros in the state budget in 2021, said government spokesman Florian Engels on Tuesday after the cabinet meeting.

"The end of the corona pandemic is currently not in sight," said Finance Minister Katrin Lange (SPD).

"That must be taken into account in financial policy."

The funds previously approved by the state parliament were not foreseeable enough.

If the state parliament approves the supplementary budget, the amount of credit authorizations to cope with the corona pandemic would increase to 2.9 billion euros this year, according to the State Chancellery.

In addition, there are around 300 million euros to compensate for cyclical fluctuations.
