Potsdam (dpa / bb) - The Brandenburg State Office for Occupational Safety and Health is investigating information on exceeding the permitted working hours on the construction site of the US electric car manufacturer Tesla in Grünheide near Berlin.

So far, the authority has no evidence, said Gabriel Hesse, spokesman for the Ministry of Health, on Monday.

The magazine “Business Insider” as well as BZ / “Bild” newspaper on Monday reported about long shifts of Eastern European workers who should also receive less than the minimum wage.

For the moment there is no information on the subject, it was said from company circles.

References to possible violations of the minimum wage will in principle be followed up, said Astrid Pinz, spokeswoman for the main customs office in Frankfurt (Oder) on request.

"For tactical reasons, however, no information is given," she said.

According to Ministry spokesman Hesse, the occupational health and safety situation on the large construction site has so far been satisfactory overall.

Only a small number of deficiencies were found, he said.

So far this year there have been 17 visits - they were currently running at weekly intervals, most recently on April 28th.

According to the information, 48 violations have been recorded so far.

Two work accidents have been investigated since construction began.

According to the information, records of daily working hours were also checked on a random basis; there were no violations.

In the event of violations of occupational health and safety regulations and orders from the state office, administrative offense proceedings can be initiated.

There is a risk of fines of up to 30,000 euros.

Originally, Tesla wanted to start manufacturing electric cars in July.

Now there is a risk of a later start, as the application for approval of the project has to be publicly interpreted again according to the State Environment Agency.

Tesla also wants to include the construction and operation of a battery factory in the previous application.

The state of Brandenburg has not yet approved the car factory in terms of environmental law.

Tesla is building there at its own risk through several early approvals.
