Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - What remains for the German handball players from this short trip?

A few hours after the 26:24 victory in the European Championship qualification in Bosnia-Herzegovina, the DHB team returned to Germany.

National coach Alfred Gislason should already have given his thoughts to the specially organized charter plane.

His team had already secured the ticket for the 2022 European Championship in Hungary and Slovakia before the game.

The considerations of the Icelander have long since been overshadowed by another major tournament.

KADERPUZZLE: Who is allowed - and who is not?

The game in Bosnia-Herzgewonina already served the national coach in preparation for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Since he is only allowed to take 17 players with him to Japan, the competition is already in full swing.

While left winger Marcel Schiller (ten goals) underlined his strong form in the national team, wobbly candidates like Fabian Wiede or Sebastian Heymann could not advertise themselves.

"In my opinion, he was far from his possibilities," Gislason criticized Heymann clearly.

On May 2nd (6 p.m. / Sport1), the 23-year-old will at least have another chance in the final European Championship qualifier against Estonia in Stuttgart.

WACKEL CANDIDATES: Not only Heymann has to fight for his place.

Of the 17 players that Gislason will take to Tokyo, only 14 will be part of the regular squad.

In theory, the 61-year-old could take two players for each position.

At the moment, however, it seems unlikely that he would do without one of the three circle runners - Hendrik Pekeler, Patrick Wiencek or Johannes Golla.

Accordingly, the chances of fourth cyclist Jannik Kohlbacher, who can show himself in Stuttgart, are bad.

Backcourt player Fabian Böhm and right winger Tobias Reichmann also want to prove themselves to the coach.

Wiencek, Golla, right winger Timo Kastening, goalkeeper Andreas Wolff and backcourt player Steffen Weinhold, on the other hand, will be given a break.
