The "Shark of Messina", the Italian Vincenzo Nibali, was integrated into the Trek team for the Giro (May 8 to 30) after being given the medical green light on Monday following his recent fracture of his right wrist.

“It was a race against the clock and I'm very happy I won it. Since the day I fell on April 14th, I have done nothing but think about recovering to participate. at the Giro ", reacted Nibali, who has already won the three big tours (France, Italy, Spain) in his career.

"I'm not coming in the best conditions I hoped for, without this crash, and I will need a lot of caution in the peloton," added the Sicilian.

"It is impossible to say if I can aim for the general classification or for stage victories. I want to try to leave a mark on the Giro but I will only know how to do it along the way."

"The wrist reacted well to the stresses created during the last week of intense training," said the team's doctor, Dr Emilio Magni, for his part.

"Everything went in the best way".

Nibali, 36, will be one of the team's three leaders along with compatriot Giulio Ciccone and Dutchman Bauke Mollema.
