Speyer (dpa / lrs) - The Speyer Bishop Karl-Heinz Wiesemann extends his professional break for health reasons until the end of August.

"Unfortunately, my recovery is progressing a little more slowly than I had hoped, so that I will probably not be able to return until the end of the summer vacation and fully perform my shepherd service again," said Wiesemann on Monday.

The diocese and the bishop did not say exactly what the 60-year-old was suffering from.

It was only at the end of March that it became known that Wiesemann had to extend a break of several weeks on the advice of a doctor.
