Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Hamburg has almost doubled the funds for the maintenance of IT equipment in general schools.

Instead of the previous 4.5 million euros, eight million euros per year are now available for the time being, the school authorities announced on Monday.

2.5 million euros of the fresh money came from the Federal Government's Digital Pact III, and another million euros will be financed from state funds.

"With the additional money, existing solutions at Hamburg's schools can now be expanded with their own employees or service providers, or contracts can be concluded with service providers," said school senator Ties Rabe (SPD).

According to the information, a grammar school or a district school with around 1,000 pupils has received an average of around 22,500 euros per year, and a primary school with around 350 pupils around 11,000 euros. These sums are now to be topped up by a fixed amount of 10,000 euros per school and year. According to the information, a total of 63,000 laptops and tablets for schoolchildren and more than 3,000 displays and projectors were delivered in the past year alone. 95 percent of all state schools are now equipped with WiFi, almost 90 percent of all classrooms with digital presentation technology.

The school authorities are finally giving in to the pressure and increasing the urgently needed IT funds, said the left parliamentary group leader Sabine Boeddinghaus.

But from 2024 schools would be left with the costs alone.

"Then the school authorities turn the money off again."

At the same time, Boeddinghaus accused the school board of internal waste in administering the process.
