At the plenary session of the extraordinary National Assembly in April, held at the National Assembly last night, the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act was passed that prevents public officials, including members of the National Assembly, from gaining private interests through their official authority.

It was passed eight years after it was submitted to the National Assembly in 2013, and only 1.9 million people are eligible to apply.

In the future, job-related persons, such as public officials, must report within 14 days from the date they become aware of their personal interests and apply for evasion from the work.

If it is revealed that you have benefited from using nonpublic information, you will face up to seven years in prison.

In addition to this, members of the National Assembly are obligated to register their personal interests, spouse, and direct existence within 30 days of the election decision.

In the plenary session yesterday, in addition to the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act, some amendments to the Act on Equal Employment of Men and Women and Support for Work-Family Balance, and some amendments to the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance Act were also passed.

A motion to appoint the candidate of Supreme Justice Chun Dae-yeop was also passed with 234 votes in favor of 266 seats, 27 objections, and five abstentions.

However, the Loss Compensation Act for small business owners who suffered damage from the coronavirus could not be dealt with at this plenary session as the ruling and opposition parties could not reach an agreement on whether to apply retroactively, and it was moved to next month.
