Annaberg-Buchholz (dpa / sn) - The Annaberger Kät folk festival is also canceled this year due to the Corona crisis.

"The pandemic continues to determine and influence our everyday life, so that the largest festival in the Ore Mountains, the Annaberger KÄT, will unfortunately be canceled for June 2021," said city spokeswoman Annett Flämig on Thursday.

The Annaberg-Buchholz city council made this sad decision.

Because of the pandemic, the festival in the Erzgebirge city was canceled for the 500th anniversary last year.

The Annaberger Kät should have taken place from June 4th to 13th.

The largest Saxon folk festival goes back to a pilgrimage from 1520 to Trinity (Trinity Sunday).

After the Reformation, the pilgrimage first became a festival of the dead, then later a fair and fair.

According to tradition, the short form of the name Kät goes back to the dialect pronunciation of the word Dreieinigkeit (Dreiaanigkät).
