With sadness and tears, the city of Fuheis bid farewell to the Jordanian boxer Rashid Sweissat after his death in Poland a few days ago, amid doubts about the main cause of his death during his participation in the World Boxing Championship for the youth category.

The body of the deceased was buried this afternoon, Thursday, from the cemetery church in Fuheis, northwest of the Jordanian capital, Amman, to his final resting place.

The case of doubts about the death of boxer Soysat caused by a dispute over the direct cause of death, between those who attributed this to a previous injury suffered by Soysat during training before his participation in the tournament, and those who attributed the cause to direct injury during the third round of fighting.

Sweissat - born in 2002 - is a boxer with the Jordanian national team, and an international boxer in the youth category 5 years ago, and won the Kingdom's championship gold weight of 81 kilograms in 2018, and participated in Arab and international championships, in addition to local, Arab and international training camps, according to the Boxing Federation.

Sweissat's funeral was limited to his family and close associates, as a result of the restrictions imposed due to the Corona pandemic, and the family accepted condolences at the cemetery without opening a mourning house.

Awaiting investigations

Rashid's family and friends received the body at the door of the cemetery church in Fuheis with the wedding of a groom, the songs of Farah and Zgharid.

Jihad, the deceased’s uncle, told Al-Jazeera Net during the burial ceremony, “We demand the formation of an investigation committee from the Public Prosecution to find out the details of what happened with our son Rashid, and to answer all the questions that revolve around the direct cause of death.

And if there was a previous injury with Rashid, how would he be allowed to play?

And about the status of preparations before going to the tournament, and was the team ready for it or not?

And at dawn today, a private plane brought the body of boxer Soysat from Poland, after his death from a severe injury during his fight with Estonian Antoine Vinogardov in the World Youth Championship.

The death incident constituted a shock to the Jordan Boxing Federation, the Olympic Committee, the sports community and the Jordanian community, especially as it was the first of its kind in Jordan, and social networking sites witnessed widespread interaction during the past days.

Disagreements in the union

The death of Sweisat opened the door for accusations to the Jordan Boxing Federation of "failure to equip and train the boxer properly, and failure to conduct the necessary medical examinations for him before his departure and entry to competitions," according to specialists.

As a matter of accusations, there were "differences in the board of directors of the federation regarding the participation of the Jordanian team in this tournament, due to the lack of combat skills and physical abilities of the players participating in the delegation, which does not qualify them to participate in such international tournaments," according to a source in the Boxing Federation.

Boxing Federation

Mazen Al-Qadi, Vice President of the Jordan Boxing Federation, denied - in his interview with Al-Jazeera Net - "the total of accusations," stressing that "the participating delegation is composed of 8 boxers and is qualified to participate and represent the Kingdom, and there are technical and training committees that nominated these boxers to participate, and the Board of Directors unanimously agreed to The delegation’s participation after the nominations made by the relevant committees, without any violation by any of the board members.

He added, "The participating team, including the late Rashid Sweissat, was fit in health according to the medical examinations conducted by the Federation's doctors, and the approved medical protocol, and skilled and physically fit according to the coaches and technical committees, and he did not suffer any injury before the tournament and during the training camp during the past month."

The judge explained that the International Federation "conducts a medical examination for players before participating in the tournament and before matches, and in the event of a previous injury, the player is prevented from participating, and this is evidence that the player Soysat is healthy and fit for participation in the tournament."

The Boxing Association formed an investigation committee to find out the direct cause of the death of the young boxer, pending the medical reports, official investigations, the referee's testimony, the match committee by the official authorities in Poland, and the report of the International Boxing Federation.

The Jordanian Olympic Committee confined itself to issuing a statement expressing its deep sadness and deep pain over the death of the boxer, without providing details about the measures taken after the accident.
