Radebeul (dpa / sn) - From bullying on the Internet to physical attacks: teachers in Saxony are increasingly exposed to verbal or physical attacks by students or parents.

In a nationwide survey, members reported psychological and physical violence against teachers, school administrators and school staff in the past three years, as the Saxon Teachers' Association (SLV) announced on Thursday.

1052 colleagues from all types of schools participated in the survey between April 16 and 19.

Almost two-thirds reported psychological violence, especially verbal abuse, threats, insults and harassment. Almost a third confirmed that teachers at their school were defamed, harassed and coerced over the Internet. Most of these came from students or parents. Almost a quarter reported physical violence against colleagues such as hitting, knocking or throwing objects by students. 30 percent of the cases were about elementary schools.

"Every case of violence against teachers is one case too many," said SLV state chairman Jens Weichelt.

According to the information, 20 percent of the attacks could not be resolved within the school to the satisfaction of those affected.

In the case of psychological violence and Internet bullying, in particular, it is difficult to explain them and bring those responsible to account.

Often incidents in the interest of the school and the teachers concerned were not made public.
