Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - Despite an already large staff reduction, Lufthansa intends to cut around 10,000 full-time positions in Germany or to cut personnel costs to a comparable extent.

The group wants to achieve this through voluntary departures or part-time solutions, as CFO Remco Steenbergen said on Thursday when the quarterly figures were presented.

He referred to ongoing negotiations with the unions for the pilots and the ground crew on new regulations from 2022. But he also said: "We are preparing for layoffs."

This means could be used at the beginning of next year.

In the past twelve months, the company said it has cut around 24,000 full-time positions worldwide, which corresponds to around 25,700 employees.

The majority was accounted for by the catering subsidiary LSG, whose European business was sold to the Gategroup.

In Germany, the number of full-time positions fell by 8,000 to 52,200, mostly due to fluctuation.

Outside Germany, 16,000 jobs were cut in the same period.

At the end of March, Lufthansa named 93,500 jobs across the Group, which are shared by around 111,000 Lufthansa employees.
