The Hamburg public prosecutor's office has demanded life imprisonment for a 50-year-old who is said to have doused his ex-wife and ten-year-old son with gasoline and set them on fire.

As a spokesman for the court said on Thursday, the prosecution also requested the particular gravity of the guilt on Wednesday.

In that case, early release after 15 years would be as good as impossible.

The defense was expected to plead on Thursday, and the regional court could pronounce the verdict on Tuesday.

The public prosecutor's office accuses the Turkish-born stateless man of double attempted murder.

He is said to have stabbed the then 40-year-old woman on May 1 of last year.

Then he broke into the apartment in the Lurup district, showered his ten-year-old son and his wife with gasoline and set them on fire.

The twelve-year-old daughter was able to save herself on a balcony of the burning apartment - although also doused with gasoline - and alert the rescue workers.

The mother and son survived with life-threatening injuries.

The apartment burned out completely.

The father also suffered severe burns.

The process began in November last year before the Hamburg district court.

During the procedure, the daughter's dramatic emergency calls were also played.

"My father has come ... the house is on fire," the twelve-year-old screamed in panic.

In the days before the crime, the girl's mother told her ex-husband that their separation was final.

The man then drove to the 40-year-old's apartment.

The mother let him into the apartment building because he supposedly only wanted to pick up the ten-year-old son.

But suddenly he pulled a knife and stabbed the woman at the door of the apartment three times in the neck and neck.

The son came to his mother's aid.

He jumped his father in the back and told him to let go of her.

Then the father went into the living room and got two bottles of one and a half liters of gasoline from a backpack, the prosecution said.

Apartment burns out completely

He poured the liquid over his son and set it on fire with a lighter.

The ten-year-old was able to extinguish the flames by rolling on the carpet and splashing water in the bathtub.

Meanwhile, the defendant also poured gasoline on his ex-wife and set it on fire.

He also showered the twelve-year-old daughter with the fire accelerator.

But the girl was able to take refuge on the balcony, from where she was rescued by the fire brigade with the help of a turntable ladder.

When the police and fire brigade arrived, the apartment was in full fire, a police officer said on Friday on the witness stand.

The officers could not have entered because of the flames.

The heat had already melted the lamps in the stairwell.

"You should burn in the apartment!"

According to the indictment, the 50-year-old had also spilled gasoline in the hallway and set it on fire.

According to the police, neighbors heard the man shout: "You should burn in the apartment!"

According to the indictment, the woman and son were critically injured and treated in clinics for months.

You will suffer permanent severe damage.

The defendant was also in hospital for three months.

He was only able to negotiate a few hours a day, said a court spokesman.

The children and the now 41-year-old mother appeared as joint plaintiffs in the trial.
