Fire of a public bus, clashes with the police, destruction of statue and looting of shopping centers in Bogota, Cali, and Medellin.

Thousands of Colombians protested on Wednesday against the tax reform being discussed in Congress.

If this project is adopted, taxes would then be increased for people who earn more than 550 euros per month.

And the VAT of twenty products would then rise to 5% or 19% as for computers or gas.

Colombians feel they are footing the bill for state aid during the five-month quarantine last year.

New events planned for Thursday

These massive protests come as Colombia is gradually reconfiguring itself to cope with the

third wave of Covid-19

.

So far, the country officially has nearly 3 million positive cases and more than 72,000 deaths.

Curfews on weekdays and confinement on weekends are in effect until May 3 across the country.

The demonstrations must continue this Thursday and a new call to mobilize has been launched for May 19.
