Munich (dpa) - The Bavarian State Opera in Munich founds its own label.

Audio and video recordings are to be published in the future under the name Bayerische Staatsoper Recordings (BSOrec), as the house announced on Thursday.

A recording of Gustav Mahler's 7th Symphony will be released on May 28th.

It is the 6th Academy concert of the 2017/18 season under the direction of the then General Music Director Kirill Petrenko.

According to artistic director Nikolaus Bachler, the establishment of the in-house label is part of the ongoing strategy of becoming independent from record companies and TV stations.

In this way, the State Opera, one of the world's leading opera houses, can present its “unrivaled wide-ranging program to even more classical music lovers all over the world”.

In addition to opera productions and concert recordings of major symphonic works, productions from the children's and youth program Campus as well as publications from the archive and chamber music editions are also planned.
