Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The Stuttgarter Kickers will not return to the 4th division for the coming season.
The former Bundesliga club was surprised on Thursday evening by the decision that the season in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg would be canceled without promoted and relegated teams.
"We took note of this message this evening and are surprised and disappointed," said the sporting director Lutz Siebrecht.
The shareholders' meeting and the game committee with representatives of the country's three football associations justified the decision with the fact that "all league clubs have been prohibited from team training under competitive conditions for months and will continue to do so."
A resumption of gaming operations was no longer an option.
The Kickers were relegated to the league in 2018 and have been aiming for a return to the regional league ever since.
