Munich (dpa / lby) - To revitalize and strengthen the inner cities after the corona pandemic, the Bavarian Ministry of Construction is providing a special fund of 100 million euros.

"We give the cities and municipalities tailor-made instruments to make the inner cities fit for the future with short-term and long-term measures," said Building Minister Kerstin Schreyer (CSU) on Thursday in Munich.

The already difficult situation in many inner cities has worsened due to the corona pandemic and the lockdown.

Cities, markets and municipalities could actively counteract the consequences of the pandemic in city centers and town centers through the special fund «Revitalize inner cities».

The range of funding from urban development funds ranged from urban planning concepts for the further development of inner cities, urban inner city management, a project fund for inner city development and the temporary rental of vacant premises by the municipality.

"The restructuring of large retail properties, the interim acquisition of vacant retail properties, structural investments for interim uses, municipal funding programs for ground floor uses or long-term projects such as structural measures to revitalize inner cities can be promoted by the special fund," said Schreyer.

The municipalities have until June 10th to report their needs to the respective district government.
