Berlin (AP) - 1. FC Union has signed U21 national player Paul Jaeckel for the coming season.
The defender comes from second division SpVgg Greuther Fürth to the Berlin first division.
“For me, the move means the chance to play in one of the best leagues in Europe.
Union is a special club and is still very young in the Bundesliga, but they have already proven their quality », the 22-year-old Jaeckel was quoted in a statement from Union on Thursday.
Born in Eisenhüttenstadt, Jaeckel comes from the youth performance center of FC Energie Cottbus, then moved to VfL Wolfsburg and became a regular in Fürth. The 1.89 meter tall central defender was not present in the preliminary round of the U21 European Championship. But he still has the opportunity to recommend himself for the finals from May 31st. Jaeckel would like to say goodbye to the Bundesliga promotion from Franconia, in order to then meet with Union in the coming season at his old club.
