Stuttgart / Berlin (dpa / lsw) - Baden-Württemberg's Interior Minister Thomas Strobl has welcomed the decision by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution to observe extremist sections of the Corona protest movement.

"It is good that action is now taking place," said the CDU politician.

"The Office for the Protection of the Constitution must continuously analyze the development of the so-called lateral thinkers, we must pay special attention to this movement."

Further radicalization cannot be ruled out.

From the point of view of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, she was "quite conceivable," said Strobl on Wednesday.

The Federal Ministry of the Interior had previously announced that some individuals and groups belonging to the spectrum of the movement would be assigned to a new collective observation object «anti-democratic and / or security-endangering delegitimization of the state» and «being processed by the intelligence service». This means that the Office for the Protection of the Constitution can now, for example, collect data on certain people from the scene nationwide. Overall, the authority fears that the conspiracy theories spread in the course of the protests against the corona measures will not completely disappear even after the end of the pandemic.

In Baden-Württemberg, the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution is already observing the "lateral thinking" movement.

The authority assigns several actors to the milieu of "Reich citizens" and "self-administrators" who, among other things, negate democratic and constitutional structures.

The "lateral thinking" movement rejects these allegations.
