28 April 2021 Procida will be the first Italian Covid-free island: Mayor Dino Ambrosino announced it, explaining that, after completing the vaccinations for Procidans over 60, the mass vaccination campaign will come to life from tomorrow with which by Saturday it will be administered the first dose to the entire island population.

Citizens who have registered on the regional internet platform will be summoned by email from ASL Napoli 2 Nord at the Town Hall, where the usual office activities aimed at the public will be temporarily suspended to carry out vaccinations. "With this operation Procida is a candidate to be the first Covid-free island in Italy", concluded the mayor.

Tomorrow the first 800 called up. The doors of the vaccination hub set up in the Town Hall will open at 8 am and it will go on until 8 pm. In 4 days, that is, until Saturday 1 May, the whole population aged 18 and over will be vaccinated. About 10 thousand inhabitants reside in Procida and, explained the mayor Dino Ambrosino, "at this moment there are already 2,653 citizens vaccinated with at least the first dose, 26% of the entire population vaccinated. Of these - he added - about 800 have also received the second dose ".

Decisive for the acceleration of the vaccination campaign will be the possibility of using the single-dose vaccine Janssen by Johnson & Johnson: "This will mainly be the vaccine that will be done - said Ambrosino - and it is an important choice also in light of the fact that ours is mainly a community of sailors and seafarers, who are often called to leave without a certain notice and after a short time, so they may have difficulty making the first and second doses.
