  The State Secretary of the Ministry of Labor of Cambodia revealed to the media that as of the 26th, a total of 206 factories across the country had found workers diagnosed with new coronary pneumonia, and the number of workers was as many as 1,673, accounting for 15% of the total number of patients in the country.

Among them, a total of 134 factories in Phnom Penh City suffered from the epidemic, and the number of workers was 1,598.

In addition, as many as 170,000 workers are required to undergo quarantine observation.

  Xingsuo pointed out that the "closure" ban (from April 15 to May 5) in the capital of Phnom Penh and Dakin Ou City in Kangla province has caused 690 factories in the area to be forced to suspend operations and more than 100,000 workers lose their income. .

Manufacturers may also be punished by international brands and buyers for late delivery.

  Xingsuo said that the factory environment, overcrowding of dormitories and transporting workers are all factors that led to a large-scale outbreak in the factory. Currently, the Ministry of Labor is discussing with employers and labor unions in order to adopt better epidemic prevention measures.

  It is known that at present, there are a total of 9 districts in Phnom Penh listed as "red zones", some of which are areas where factories and workers are concentrated; in addition, many factories have recently experienced epidemics in Ansnu County, Kangla Province.

Xingsuo said that the Ministry of Labor will implement a new strategy to fight the epidemic, which is to vaccinate all people in the "red zone", including workers.

  The garment and footwear industry is Cambodia’s most important export industry, accounting for 80% of total merchandise exports and employing more than 600,000 workers.

The Cambodian government has listed workers as a priority group for vaccinations, and through the Ministry of Labor, starting from April 7th, vaccinating workers across the country will begin. About 100,000 workers are expected to be vaccinated in the first phase.
