Hanover (dpa / lni) - The Lower Saxony state parliament is discussing, among other things, structural change and future issues in agriculture at its meeting on Thursday.

In an inquiry, the FDP parliamentary group concerns the Lower Saxony regulations on the use of pesticides and possibly stricter federal regulations soon.

In addition, the FDP wants to ensure that in the case of fertilizer restrictions due to pollution of the groundwater, only those farmers are held accountable who actually caused the pollution.

The Greens, on the other hand, have filed an application against further areas for gypsum mining being designated in the southern Harz. The so-called Gypsum Peace, concluded in 2002, in which the areas for dismantling were determined together with environmental associations, must be adhered to. The state of Lower Saxony has a responsibility to protect the unique natural landscape in the southern Harz.

The FDP parliamentary group is also campaigning for an improvement in the fight against forest fires.

Lower Saxony is one of the federal states that are most affected by forest fires and climate change with dry periods increases the risk.

The Liberals therefore demand additional modern technology for fighting forest fires and up-to-date training.

This involves testing new fire-fighting vehicles, introducing fire-fighting robots and drones to explore and monitor areas of fire.

Fire-fighting drones should also be developed and introduced, suggests the FDP.
