Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Hamburger SV is facing a groundbreaking game in the 2nd Bundesliga.

The third place in the table has to win the catch-up game against Karlsruher SC on Thursday (6.30 p.m. / Sky) in order to preserve his chances of promotion.

In the table, Holstein Kiel is fourth, only one point behind the Hanseatic League, but has played two games less than HSV after two Corona quarantines and could still displace the Hamburgers.

In front of HSV, VfL Bochum and SpVgg Greuther Fürth are on the direct promotion places.

Coach Daniel Thioune has to do without central defender Stephan Ambrosius against KSC.

The 22-year-old tore a cruciate ligament in his right knee and is out for months.

Rick van Drongelen, who has just fought back after a cruciate ligament rupture, could start for him.

Defensive player Moritz Heyer will also be absent due to his yellow card suspension.

The game against KSC was originally supposed to kick off on April 20, but was canceled due to the corona quarantine of Karlsruhe.
