Chemnitz (dpa / sn) - The Federal Employment Agency today announced the April figures on unemployment in Saxony.

In the previous month, the number of unemployed had fallen, but was well above the level before the Corona crisis.

Around 137,300 people in the Free State were registered as unemployed.

The unemployment rate was reported at 6.5 percent.

The deadline for collecting the current figures was April 13th.

Experts are concerned about a sharp rise in long-term unemployment.

While the number has fallen steadily since 2007, the trend has been rising steeply since the outbreak of the pandemic.

In March, around 52,600 people were unemployed for more than a year: an increase of 44 percent within one year.
