Throws (dpa / lrs) - An 18-year-old motorist turned right in a long left curve in the Ahrweiler district, drove through a ditch and then hit a drainpipe.
His car was then thrown back onto the road and came to a standstill lying on its side, the police said.
The young driver from the Bonn area was seriously injured in the accident on Wednesday afternoon on Landesstraße 10 near Werft.
The police suspected that the cause of the accident was too high speed.
The driver was taken to the hospital by rescue helicopter.
His 23-year-old passenger was slightly injured and was also hospitalized.
Both were able to get themselves out of the car with the help of first responders.
The L10 was closed for about an hour and a half in the afternoon.
The car was totaled.
