Beelitz (dpa / bb) - From old to new: In Beelitz, a former sewage treatment plant is to be converted into an open-air venue for the State Garden Show 2022 (LAGA).

The unused site in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district is to be redesigned for a total of 3.5 million euros, the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Climate Protection announced on Wednesday.

Of this, the ministry plans to contribute around 2.6 million from an EU fund to rural development.

“The most important thing is that with this project, the city will not only create a modern venue for the LAGA guests, but that it will remain a central venue for the Beelitzers as well as the guests of the city and the region after the garden show,” said Minister of State for Agriculture Silvia Bender with.

The small town of Beelitz is currently preparing to host the state horticultural show next year.

Up to 450,000 visitors are expected, and sales of single and season tickets alone are expected to generate revenues of 6.5 million euros.
