Oldenburg (dpa / lni) - Two tipis, each made of 1200 knitted and crocheted squares, are to travel through the city districts in Oldenburg.

Around 150 people between the ages of 7 and 90 took part in the “A Tipi for Oldenburg” project, as Sophie Arenhövel from the City of Oldenburg's cultural office said.

"The response was so great that we were able to make two tipis."

According to this, children and adults from all over Germany submitted or sent knitted or crocheted squares for the tent last year.

The background to the project is the so-called Urban Knitting movement, which aims to change public space through knitting.

There are knitted tipis in cities in different countries.

The two tipis in Oldenburg were set up for the first time last year and later stowed away for the winter.

From this year on, they are to be seen as mobile cultural sites in different parts of the city.
