Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - The forklift manufacturer Kion significantly exceeded the expectations of the analysts in the first quarter.

Sales at the MDax group rose year-on-year by 17.1 percent to 2.38 billion euros.

The operating result before interest and taxes (EBIT) increased by almost 50 percent to 215 million euros.

The net result climbed in the first quarter from 67.8 million in the previous year to 137 million.

The group confirmed the forecast for the current year.

On the one hand, the world economy continues to recover, from which the world market for industrial trucks is also benefiting, it said in a statement on Wednesday.

On the other hand, the trend towards warehouse automation in online trading remains strong.
