Halle (dpa / sa) - Despite the corona pandemic, slightly more businesses were registered than deregistered in Saxony-Anhalt in the first quarter of 2021.

2883 registrations were compared to 2779 cancellations, as the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday in Halle.

Compared to the same period of the previous year, the number of business registrations increased by 5.6 percent, while the number of cancellations decreased by 7.4 percent.

More cancellations than registrations were registered in the areas of economic services and hospitality, which are particularly affected by the measures to combat the corona pandemic.

In contrast to the same period in the previous year, more companies in the retail, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles were registered than deregistered.

There were also more registrations than cancellations in the information and communication and energy supply categories.

According to the statisticians, the city of Magdeburg and the districts of Saalekreis and Anhalt-Bitterfeld as well as the independent city of Dessau-Roßlau recorded negative balances at the district level.

In contrast, in the districts of Börde, Jerichower Land, Harz and in the Burgenland district, there was a surplus of business registrations compared to business cancellations.
