In Chad, opponents and civil society hostile to the Transitional Military Council are calling for new mobilizations on Wednesday.

A call to go out in the streets renewed after a Tuesday day marked by large gatherings in peripheral districts of the capital and in certain provincial towns.

The security forces, police and soldiers are deployed but except for a crowd of young people in the Walia district of the 9th district of the Chadian capital, the situation seems less tense this Wednesday morning, report our special envoys, François Mazet and Boris Vichith. A week after the announcement of his father's death and his appointment as head of the military transition, Mahamat Idriss Deby left his reserve.

For almost all Chadians, this is the first time they have heard his voice.

An "address to the nation" of a quarter of an hour broadcast by the official media in which the head of the CMT defended the place of the army in the transition.

But he also promised the holding of an inclusive dialogue and the holding of free and transparent elections.

He also asked for help from his foreign partners in the face of social, economic and security challenges, while assuring them that Chad would respect its commitments, particularly in the fight against terrorism.

A statement that came at the same time, in Paris, Emmanuel Macron and the current president of the African Union, Félix Tshisekedi, urged him to lead an inclusive and democratic transition.
