Essen (dpa / lnw) - When two cars collided at an intersection, four people were injured, some seriously, in Essen on Tuesday evening.

One of the cars was thrown into the bridge railing of the motorway overpass due to the collision on Leipziger Strasse at the level of the A40 and partly tore it out of its anchoring.

The driver was seriously injured, received emergency medical attention and was taken to a hospital.

The occupants of the second car, two adults and a six-year-old, were also taken care of by the emergency doctor.

The girl came to a children's clinic accompanied by her mother.

The other adult was only slightly injured but was also hospitalized.

The Leipziger Strasse was closed in the meantime.

The stability of the bridge railing was checked.
