Trier (dpa / lrs) - Pupils can test themselves for Corona at home when attending school if the school community has agreed on this option beforehand.

In these exceptional cases, however, the tests currently have to be procured and paid for by the parents themselves, the Supervision and Service Directorate (ADD) Trier announced on Wednesday.

The reason: The tests that are currently being made available to the schools were ordered in large margins and not individually packaged.

The new deliveries should come individually packaged: "Then you can give these tests to the children whose parents want them to be tested at home," said a spokeswoman for the ADD.

These free tests for at home are therefore only available "for the few who are in a school that has spoken out in favor of self-testing and whose parents want to carry out a test at home".

Then "a qualified self-assessment" about a negative result of the test is sufficient.

A school community includes the school management, staff, staff council, school parents' council and student representatives.

In principle, however, it still applies that tests are carried out on site at the school - or that the students have to submit a negative test to a test center or a doctor.

The tests are compulsory twice a week.

As far as ADD is aware, there are currently “not that many children” who are not sent to school because they did not want to be tested.

Figures on this are not available.

There is also no overview of the school communities that have agreed to take tests from home.

The possibility to do so has only existed since Monday, said the spokeswoman.
