Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - Thousands of volunteers in Hesse's largest city picked up around 9.2 tons of waste in the “Frankfurt Cleanup” rubbish collection campaign.

They collected more than two and a half times as much rubbish as in the previous year.

In total, almost 3,000 people took part in the two-day campaign, as the environmental department announced on Tuesday.

Above all, so-called “garbage hotspots” such as green spaces or the banks of the Main have been cleaned.

In addition to cigarette butts, disposable masks and crown caps, discarded bedside cabinets, construction fences, trunk lids and shopping carts were also collected.

The action took place for the third time.
