The flag of Normandy flew in the sky of Ohio (United States) this Friday on the occasion of the 100th birthday of James Martin.
Nicknamed Jim “Pee Wee” Martin, the veteran was part of the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army.
He participated in the Landing on the French coasts in 1944. The standard displayed this Friday was signed by the president of the Normandy regional council Hervé Morin and by the mayor of Carentan-les-Marais (Manche), Jean-Pierre Lhonneur, the Normandy municipality said on Facebook.

The latter was then deployed in the air with the American flag by two paratroopers, Courtney and Jodi.

The anniversary ceremony took place in the presence of Tom Rice, another US Army veteran who participated in the D-Day landings.
He too will celebrate his 100th birthday in 2021. He was the initial recipient of the flag offered by Normandy, sent last year.
Tom Rice had indeed made a parachute jump on June 6, 2020 in Coronado (United States) for the commemoration of the 76th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
He then floated in the air the Norman flag signed by the two local elected officials.
