Rosenheim (dpa / lby) - Customs officers found seven frightened puppies on the back seat of a car during a traffic control in the Ebersberg district.

The driver wanted to smuggle the little Chihuahuas with false papers from Slovakia via Germany to France, as the customs in Rosenheim announced on Tuesday.

The pups sat unsecured on a blanket in their excrement.

The dogs were significantly younger than stated on the papers and in poor condition.

According to the customs authorities last week, the woman confessed to breeding dogs commercially in Slovakia and selling them to France.

The puppies were handed over to the Ebersberg animal shelter.

Proceedings for administrative offenses were initiated against the woman.

During the Corona crisis, the demand for dogs has increased.

Unscrupulous and unauthorized offers have also increased significantly.

If animal welfare or animal health law is violated during rearing, transport or sale, it is illegal animal trade.
