Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) hopes that it will be possible to rent holiday apartments in the country again this summer.

Will this be possible on Ascension Day (May 13th) and Pentecost (May 23rd / 24th)?

"That's a few more weeks," said Woidke on Tuesday on rbb information radio.

He hopes the numbers will develop positively.

«So I am optimistic.

We'll see if it's going to be so far already. "

But in any case, he is optimistic about the summer vacation.

On Monday, Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the country leaders discussed regulations for fully vaccinated and convalescent people, but there were no resolutions.

In Brandenburg there are already some such rules.

Vaccinated people no longer have to present a negative corona test when visiting a hairdresser.

Woidke is hoping for a faster pace of vaccination.

In the past few weeks, they should have placed greater emphasis on the second vaccinations because the times were up, he said.

In terms of logistics, he sees Brandenburg as being “in a great position”.

"We could now vaccinate around 200,000 people a week."

In the past few weeks, however, they had had vaccines for around 80,000 to 100,000 people.

"So there is still some room for improvement."

"We could take a little more vaccine and would progress faster," said Woidke the radio station.

“And the faster the vaccination, the sooner everyone will be back to normal.

And that has to be our goal. "

According to Woidke, it should also be discussed whether the quarantine will no longer apply to vaccinated and recovered people if they have had contact with infected people.

"We're still having the discussion," he said.

"But (...) I assume that we will implement this regulation in such a way that quarantine is not necessary if it is people who are vaccinated with vaccines approved in Europe."
