Oranienburg (dpa) - In view of the corona restrictions, boat tourists are not allowed to spend the night on chartered houseboats on the water between Berlin and the Mecklenburg Lake District.

The police in Neuruppin pointed this out on Tuesday on the occasion of a current case.

A woman and a man from Berlin, who were on a so-called bungalow boat, were stopped on Monday at the Lehnitz road bridge near Oranienburg.

The couple had come by boat from Brandenburg / Havel and had been on the road for a long time.

It stated that it wanted to cross the Havel north to Lychen (Uckermark).

The alleged transfer trip turned out to be a tourist trip, which is not allowed in view of the containment regulations, said a police spokeswoman.

Tourist overnight stays are not allowed on land or on water.

The Berliners had to moor the bungalow boat and return home differently.

The responsible public order office must determine the amount of a possible fine for the couple and the landlord of the houseboat, it said.

Between Waren and Berlin, the connected water sports area - the Mecklenburg Lake District and the Havel - attracts thousands of boat enthusiasts every year.

Many are currently looking forward to the start of the season.
