Emmanuel Macron will attend the private funeral of Stéphanie Monfeture on Thursday, the police officer murdered on Friday by a 36-year-old Tunisian in a Rambouillet (Yvelines) police station, the Elysée announced on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Jean Castex will preside over a national tribute ceremony in Rambouillet on Friday, added the presidency.

The stabbing murder of an administrative officer from the Rambouillet police station caused a stir in the country, on top of the beheading of teacher Samuel Paty six months ago and the killing of the prefecture of Paris police in October 2019.

"We will not give up on the fight against Islamist terrorism," Emmanuel Macron tweeted on Friday.

On Monday, a thousand people gathered in Rambouillet and police officers in front of the police stations of several cities in France in tribute to the official.
