According to the auction company Sotheby's, where the shoes were sold, the market for unusual sneakers is really hot right now.
The shoes broke the previous record, a pair of Nike Air Jordan that sold for 615,000 dollars in August last year.
Kanye West wore the new record shoes during his appearance at the 2008 Grammy Awards. The shoes were a collaboration between him and Nike, but the finished product did not land in stores until April 2009. Prior to the collaboration with the music icon, Nike had only made sneakers inspired by or in collaboration with different sports profiles.
