Berlin (dpa) - The ERC Ingolstadt is developing into a favorite scare in the playoffs of the German ice hockey league.

After the surprising 4: 3 (2: 1, 1: 1, 1: 1) on Monday evening at the Eisbären Berlin, the 2014 champion can now play the first playoff at home on Wednesday (8.30 p.m. / MagentaSport) against the former DEL series champion. Make it clear that you have participated in the final since 2015.

"Of course I like Berlin very much, but I really don't have to come back again," said Ingolstadt coach Doug Shedden after his team won the semifinals at MagentaSport.

Ingolstadt had already eliminated co-favorites EHC Red Bull Munich in just two games in the quarter-finals.

"I am really very proud of my boys," said Shedden, who came third with the ERC in the preliminary round in the southern group behind the Adler Mannheim and Munich.

Match winner on Monday was an ex-Berliner: Louis-Marc Aubry led his new team by three goals to victory at the Eisbären, for which he had played for four years until last summer.

"I've tried to bring in everything I have," said Aubry, who spoke of a "mentally huge victory": "We just have to go on now."

In the other semi-final series, Mannheim has every chance of reaching the final.

With 4: 1 (1: 0, 1: 1, 2: 0) against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg, the top favorite started the series befittingly.

The match was much closer.

«It was a tough playoff fight.

1: 4 is not the right result for this game, ”said Wolfsburg coach Pat Cortina.

The Adler owed it mainly to ex-national goalkeeper Dennis Endras that they only conceded one goal.

"It was hard work again for everyone who was on the ice," said the now 35-year-old.

On Wednesday in Wolfsburg (6.30 p.m. / MagentaSport), the former Grizzly and now Adler trainer Pavel Gross expects an "even tougher" game: "But we will be ready."
