Hanover (dpa / lni) - The corona situation in the Lower Saxony clinics remains tense.

1083 corona patients are currently being treated in the hospital, announced the head of the state government's corona crisis team, State Secretary Heiger Scholz, on Tuesday in Hanover.

322 sufferers are in the intensive care unit, 228 of them have to be artificially ventilated.

The proportion of ventilated patients is increasing, and younger corona patients are increasingly ending up in the hospital, said Scholz.

According to the State Health Office, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 121.8 nationwide, a week ago the value was 125.6.

The vaccination campaign is meanwhile running at full speed.

At the start of the appointment registration for over 60-year-olds with the Astrazeneca vaccine on Monday, the hotline was temporarily overloaded.

Interested parties could have already reserved an appointment for the first and second vaccination, said Scholz.

He himself had already reserved his first vaccination for the end of this week.

There were 480,300 people on the waiting list for a vaccination on Tuesday.

In the past week alone there were 260,000 vaccinations in Lower Saxony.
