Los Angeles (AP) - Anthony Hopkins was absent from the Oscar gala when the British star was named the best leading actor in the drama "The Father" on Sunday evening (local time) in Los Angeles.

But on Monday the 83-year-old thanked him with a message on Instagram: “Good morning.

I am here in my native Wales.

When I was 83, I really didn't expect that price, ”Hopkins said in the video address.

He is "very grateful" to the film academy.

At the same time, he paid tribute to his posthumous Oscar-nominated colleague Chadwick Boseman.

He left too early, said Hopkins.

Boseman died of cancer in 2020 at the age of 43.

He had been given a good chance of winning the Leading Actor Oscar for "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom".

Hopkins, who plays a demented, stubborn father in "The Father", has set an Oscar record with it.

He now holds the title of oldest actor to ever win an Oscar.

He is older than the Canadian Christopher Plummer, who won the Oscar for best supporting role in the drama "Beginners" in 2012 at the age of 82.
