Potsdam (dpa / bb) - After the consultations by the federal and state governments on vaccination, Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) has been optimistic that the corona vaccinations could pick up speed significantly.

If the vaccine delivery quantities announced by Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) actually arrive, he assumes that "it can be possible that around a third of all Brandenburg residents who are eligible for vaccination will have received at least one initial vaccination by the end of May," said Woidke on Monday evening.

At the moment 80,000 to 100,000 vaccinations per week are possible with the vaccines available. "We need a doubling here," emphasized the head of government. This can be done with the available logistics of vaccination centers, mobile teams and medical practices. "Everything is related to everything: the reliable delivery of vaccines, the approval of prioritization groups for vaccination, the equality of vaccinated people with those who have been tested and, in the end, the opening of trade, culture and tourism."

Woidke pointed out that Brandenburg opened priority group 3 last week and thus enabled vaccinations for over 60-year-olds, but also for teachers at secondary schools, firefighters and employees in disaster control.

He hopes that if there is enough vaccine, the vaccinations can be offered to all population groups as early as the end of May.

In Brandenburg, people who have already been completely vaccinated are on an equal footing with citizens who have tested negative, emphasized the SPD politician.

This means that the former no longer have to present a negative test when shopping or visiting the hairdresser.

Woidke announced that the cabinet wanted to change the quarantine regulation on Tuesday.

This should also stipulate for commuters on the German-Polish border that those with a full vaccination no longer have to present a test.

This applies to doctors and nurses, for example.
