Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - Unknown perpetrators blew up an ATM in the Rödelheim district of Frankfurt early on Monday morning.

The at least two perpetrators first let gas flow into the machine and then caused it to explode, as a police spokesman said on Monday.

The result was a completely destroyed ATM and a badly damaged building.

The glass fronts in particular would have produced a "picture of devastation".

The perpetrators escaped with cash worth several thousand euros.

They are said to have been equipped with headlamps and, according to current knowledge, used a motorcycle to escape.

The property damage to the machine and building is estimated according to initial information at at least 30,000 euros.
